Frequently Asked Questions

It’s understandable that starting electrolysis can come with many questions. Whether you’re curious about how electrolysis works, what to expect during treatment, or how to prepare for your visit, this section is designed to give you clear, honest answers.

  • Electrolysis is the only method of permanent hair removal approved by both the FDA and AMA.

A fine probe, matched to the diameter of the hair, is gently inserted into the follicle. A controlled electrical current is then applied to destroy the hair’s growth center. Once the follicle is effectively treated, it can no longer produce hair.

  • Yes! Electrolysis has been used since 1875 when it was invented by Dr. Charles Michel, an ophthalmologist in St. Louis, to remove ingrown eyelashes. It is a safe and effective treatment when performed by a board-certified electrologist.

  • The number of sessions varies based on factors like hair type, area being treated, and individual hair growth cycles. Multiple treatments are needed to achieve full, permanent results. Your personalized plan will be discussed during your consultation. With that being said, I will never be able to give a specific amount of time that it will take to complete your treatments.

  • Most clients describe the sensation as slight heat or stinging. Pain tolerance varies, but I use the most current, state-of-the-art equipment and can adjust settings to help maximize comfort.

  • Yes! Unlike laser hair removal, electrolysis works on all hair colors and skin types, making it a great option for anyone looking for permanent results.
