Pre & Post-Treatment Recommendations
Electrolysis is a safe and effective method of permanent hair removal, but achieving the best results requires proper care before and after treatment. Following these recommendations can enhance comfort, improve effectiveness, and support optimal skin healing.
Pretreatment
Hydrate! Well hydrated skin responds better to electrolysis.
Avoid sun exposure.
Refrain from use of topical and oral medications that cause photosensitivity such as retinoids and glycolic acid for at least 24-72 hours before treatment.
Arrive at appointment with skin that is clean and without cosmetics or heavy moisturizers.
Allow hair to grow out about 3 days in advance of appointment (1/8 to 1/4 inch long).
Avoid caffeinated and alcoholic beverages the day of your appointment as they will dehydrate your skin and increase anxiety making treatment less comfortable.
Try to avoid stressful situations on the day of your treatment; high stress leads to tension in the body which can make it more reactive to pain.
Finally, no tweezing, threading, waxing, plucking, pulling of hair from the skin and no scratching, rubbing or otherwise irritating the area to be treated.
Post-treatment
Apply ice to the treated area to reduce swelling and redness during the first 24 hours after treatment as needed.
Apply an Epsom salt soak to treated area by dissolving a small amount in warm water and soaking the area directly or using a clean cloth compress.
Keep the treatment area clean with mild soap and lukewarm water.
Apply products that encourage hydration and healing like aloe vera gel or a triple antibiotic ointment.
Do not use any abrasive scrubbing action on the treated areas.
For 24 hours post-treatment avoid hot tubs, pools, intense workouts that cause excessive perspiration, and the use of perfumes, heavy makeup, and alcohol-based products to the treated areas.
For 48 hours post-treatment avoid tanning beds and sunbathing. If sun exposure if unavoidable wear protective clothing and sunblock.
Avoid short or long beards from touching the treated area until completely healed.
If scabs appear do not pick them off and inform me at your next appointment.
