Pre & Post-Treatment Recommendations

Electrolysis is a safe and effective method of permanent hair removal, but achieving the best results requires proper care before and after treatment. Following these recommendations can enhance comfort, improve effectiveness, and support optimal skin healing.

Pretreatment

  • Stay hydrated — well hydrated skin responds more comfortably and effectively to electrolysis.

  • Limit sun exposure in the days leading up to and after your appointment.

  • Pause use of photosensitizing products like retinoids and glycolic acid on areas to be treated.

  • Come with a clean face or treatment area, free of makeup, lotions, or heavy creams.

  • Let hair grow for about 3 days beforehand — ideally to about 1/8 to 1/4 inch long.

  • Skip caffeine and alcohol the day of your appointment; both can dehydrate your skin and heighten sensitivity.

  • Try to stay relaxed — stress can increase pain sensitivity, so give yourself a calm day if possible.

  • No tweezing, waxing, or threading. Also avoid scratching or irritating the area.

Post-treatment

  • Gently cleanse the treated area with mild soap and lukewarm water.

  • Soothe with an Epsom salt soak: dissolve 2 teaspoons of Epsom salt in 1 cup of warm water and use a clean cloth to apply as a compress.

  • Use a cold compress or ice pack to reduce swelling and redness during the first 24 hours, if needed.

  • Moisturize with gentle, hydrating products such as aloe vera gel to calm the skin.

  • Avoid scrubbing or exfoliating the treated area until it’s fully healed.

  • For the first 24 hours, avoid hot tubs, pools, heavy workouts, and any harsh products like perfumes, alcohol-based toners, or heavy makeup on the treated area.

  • For 48 hours, stay out of tanning beds and avoid direct sun exposure. If you must be outside, wear protective clothing and use sunscreen.

  • Avoid contact with long facial hair or beards in the treated area until skin has healed.

  • If you notice scabbing, resist the urge to pick — let it heal naturally, and let me know at your next visit.

  • If you experience any unusual skin reactions, please contact me directly so I can advise you.
